Is soy protein as good for building muscle as whey protein?
I need to lose weight but I don't want to lose muscle so I need to increase my intake of protein. Whey protein powders have more fat than soy powders so i'd prefer to stick with soy as long as the muscle building benefit is close to equal.

- Whey is the king because it digests fast, soy I avoid because it can increase estrogen levels.
- Whey is a much better. It has a higher Protein Efficiency Ratio, a better amino acid score, and is more easily digested. Make sure its a whey protein isolate though and not a concentrate. I personally prefer muscle milk, which is made from whey, myself. I have gotten good results from it. I do notice my muscles are more defined, I have more balanced energy, and I feel less bloated and bulky when I am taking it. edit: Matt, there is no evidence that soy increases estrogen in men beyond what is consider normal levels. So please stop spreading lies.
- Animal protein is superior to vegetable protein so whey protein is better. Animal protein is mostly complete protein whereas vegetable protein is mostly incomplete protein.
- I have to go with whey because it is so convenient and digested quickly. You can find some great chemical free whey products minus the fillers and additives.
