Why does Mr Magabe fear Great Britain so much?
And why does he see it necessary to import 3 million rounds of AK47 bullets from China? (amongst other armaments).

- counrties are always buying and selling weapons, wouldnt read too much into the arms shipment, though it is very good that south african dock workers have refused to move the arms. mugabe does not really fear britain, he knows we couldnt do anything about zimbabwe if we wanted to. he plays on zimbabwes colonial history, which allows him to make britain a scapegoat for all the ills of his country. to be fair he does have one or two reasonable greivances against the blair administration, but the guy is still an idiot. [edit] two people called scouse answering the same question, arite laaa!
- Does he?. The weapons are for his Army to kill his own People when they disagree with him.
- He is trading on the fact that Southern Rhodesia was a British Colony and hoping g that his supporters still think they are better of under him than the British. Maybe they are so it is a good ploy by mad Communist trained geriatric hanging onto power at any cost
- When he came to power he was hugely popular as it was made out to be him that over-turned the unpopular colonial rule by the British. The sad old man still clings on to that early popularity and the long-since-passed notion of him being a liberator and a hero.
- When he pokes fun at Britain it plays well with the black inhabitants of Zimbabwe, he was a hero of the Independence movement there.
- Firstly the timing of the importation of weapons is important. The order was placed 2 months before the election with delivery due election week. Before the last election Mugabe doubled the wages of police and army and right now government jobs are pretty much all there is with unemployment at 81%. Inflation is running at 165000% so the economy actually has ceased to exist, its more like a comune using monopoly paper to barter with each other. He does not fear Great Britain. Post independence he borrowed from GB and originally bought weapons from them. Jingoism appeals to the peanut brains of his electorate who are happy to believe there are brits poised to invade. We have known (the international community) that Zimbabwe was on a road to knowwhere for a long time. The people elected him. To distract people he reposessed the white farmers to "redistribute the land to the war veterans" (ie steal well managed farms and give them to disgrunteled former paramilitaries to buy loyalty. This policy led to deaths of whites, rape and destruction. All with the consent of the government. What did they do then when they reposessed the farms? They cut down the trees and sold the timber. the trees protected the crops from excessive sun and were vital for crops to be managed. then the crops failed, food shortages and the cycle continues. Expect the following: 1. A bloody uprising to depose him 2. Fierce resistance from his loyal police and army who are the only ones being paid at the moment (in dollars) 3. Mugabe to retire in SA following invitation from Mubeki so he can spend his vast fortune in peace. 4. Famine will takehold and our TV screens will be filled with the electorate (that hate the whites and in particular Britain) starving to death and appealing for international aid. I for one will not be giving a penny to any charity that looks to solve the problems of Zimbabwe. This is a problem being created today by the people that keep him in power. There is a more serious question implied here that needs to be addressed and that is: Considering the downward spiral of countries in Africa after so-called liberation from the white opressor whether french, Dutch, Belgian of English, is there any proof to support the notion that an indigenous African leadership can actually run a country?
- At his age I don't understand what motivates him to care any more.
- I think there is going to be another Rwanda!
- Robert Mugabe and his fellow Zimbabwean despots are now like cornered rats!He will cling onto anything and blame anyone to stay in power! Why?Because He knows sooner or later he is going to finish up at The Court of Human rights at The Hague!
