What are some of the most popular television series in Britain today?

I have to get an friend a b-day gift and she is obsessed with British television. I want to get her something athentic, but I don't know anything about the popular culture in Britian today (I'm sure Benny Hill and Mr. Bean are pretty old there now). Can anyone give any suggestions? Maybe about popular comedy shows?
