Has Mr Blair’s decade in power left Britain a more dangerous and unpleasant place ?
Public Comments
- more dangerous and taxed heavier
- It's certainly not more unpleasant than when we had the Tories in power. It's not as pleasant as we might reasonably expect, but I wouldn't say it's worse than before. As for dangerous, crime has risen but probably not as a direct result of Blair policies. We do now face terrorist attacks from Islamists thanks to Blair's involvement with the Iraq war, but we have also seen the IRA disarm. They were always a far greater threat.
- More dangerous than I could have immagined 10 years ago.
- Are you new? Addendum for the 'tards: My answer meant 'yes'. Others who said it (minus the sarcasm) got thumbs up! Boy, you people sure are dumb. No wonder Blair got in in the first place!
- As an American, I have to say, misery loves company. Both countries will be paying for the horrendous leadership of Blair and Bush for many more years than these guys were in power.
- No, previous Governments and poor policies have been around since Parliament was formed. You cannot blame a modern day leader for not making changes over night when the whole system started off wrong in the first place. Get rid of the faddy daddies in Parliament and bring in real people for the people.
- He surrendered Northern ireland to the IRA,Gibraltar to the spanish, the EU rebate to the french, planning to surrender the falklands to the argentinians and surrendered our country to the muslims. Should we be surprised our service personnel surrendered to the iranians? On this basis, yes, britain is a much more dangerous place.Blair has demonstrated the effectiveness of terrorism. The upshot being an increase of terrorist activity. Unpleasant, yes. Our streets are littered with cameras watching our every move.Vans patrol the streets spying on us .Our banks, accountants and solicitors have a duty to report us to big brother. Our country lanes have become littered with hundreds of traffic signs. We have intimidating radio and Tv broadcasts threatening us about Tv licence fees, road tax and tax returns. We have lost our freedom of speech and the police force have become Blairs blackshirts and money collectors. Government spin on all fronts has been used to turn brother against brother while sinister acts of parliament are pushed through the back door. Remember. "New Labour,New Danger"
- His insistance of backing up Bush whatever he does certainly hasn't made life any easier. Also, allowing so many immigrants into the country, however admirable it is to try to help those less fortunate, is potentially bringing more danger as so many are opposed to it and may feel pushed into sorting out...what they see as a problem...in their own way; unfortunately people in this frame of mind don't seem to understand that it isn't the immigrants fault, they can only make the application, it is the government who have the final say. People are fed up and frustrated with the whole situation, and when they see the government who implemented this going nowhere, who knows what they may resort to to rectify (in their minds) the situation. Heard something on the radio today (April 10th) which just about sums up our government to a tee. A man rang in to say that we are governed by a bunch of incompetents who know the profit of everything and the value of nothing. Is he spot-on or what? Well said, that man!
- Dangerous in the sense of Terroisim, not as such, compare the 70's to late 90's with the IRA campaign and the danger then, more common place to have a terroist attack. However the sophistication in terror wepons has become more dangerous, but like all wepons, once they become bigger and better there will be more casualties. Danger of war is more likely, but I do not blame Blair for that, he is just reacting to Bush and his advisors. Unpleasant. Possibly, depends who you are and what you do. The world has changed a lot and this country with it in the 10 years. Yes the standard of living has risen, Unemployment is better controlled, the boom and bust has gone for now, yes taxes have gone up in so called stealth taxes, but the tories done that in the 17 years they where in power for, goverments cant help that they have to pay for more expensive things as well. Certainley I feel safer in My world here and now, and know that things can get a lot better, but also a lot harsher as well, I lived in the 70's remember the 3 day week, the winter of discontent, the Unions ruling the workers, the receeding power of the pound until it no longer counted for anything, the riots in the inner cities, the rise of Thatcher and the mass Unemployment, then into the 80's with the terror campaign of the IRA, the mob violence of the NUM and Wapping workers, the Poll Tax Fiasco and Riots, the fear of Nuclear Armageddon with the Iran Conflict, the Soviets and Americans Sabre rattling all over the world, the Crash of the mid 80's where so many people lost there homes due to Interest rates reaching almost 20% and wages being caped. So the last 10 years have not been too bad.
- Apparently that is our perception (Observer Poll) but, we only glean our information from newspapers and TV and I think there's always been a huge emphasis on the bad things going on as opposed to the good things. All I know for sure, is that human nature has not changed, so if it's happening in 2007 it was probably happening in 1307, 1507 etc - we just probably didn't get to hear about it back then.
- yep theyve made everything worse by design ,problem reaction solution. there solution is a new world order this is the agender that has slowly been pushed for over 70 years, world government , world currency ,total bigbrother police state and the rest .
- I`ve said it before, and I`ll say it again. Labour is better than the Tory sh1t everytime.
- Yes, but I am unsure it is entirely Blair's fault. The world in general is more unstable than ever before and new threats emerge almost weekly, perpetrated by the media, threats such as terrorism, anti-social behaviour, instability in employment, etc. Probably the biggest threat is from monetary reform and the transformation to a global economy where assesets, jobs and money flow are controlled by a few rather than the many. I agree that this "New Labour" government has been very slow to act on many issues that are under debate in the public domain years before the government take any action, it seems that either they are too isolated and insulated from day-to-day living in Britain or that it may suit another agenda we know nothing about. So Yes I agree it is now a more unpleasant place to live and more dangerous. The first they are responsible for the other is partly their fault as well due to slow reactions.
- Britain has become a moral sewer. Ashamed to be British and alienated!
- yes without a doubt
- alot more than it was 10 years ago
- In one short word .. YES ..
- YES He should stand down he is useless!
- Too true, Blue.
- No, on both counts. And on the second, for the vast majority of people, a darn sight more pleasant that it was under the Tories.
- Yes Britain used to be a Democracy not any more
- After the euphoria of the 97 election, he has made us more paranoid and sceptical of what any authority has to say. I think his dream of 'socialist conservatism' has done a huge diservice to this nation
- Absolutely and unequivocally yes. The massive disruption and damage caused by Labour every time it has been in power has been only outdone in terms of devastation, corruption, ineptitude and incompetence by Blair. In addition to invading a sovereign nation and waging an unpopular war illegally, the Indigenous British Islander has been assaulled on many fronts- security wise, socially, financially, employment-wise, fiscally, the list sadly goes on. Then the issue of poorly executed mass immigration, the terrorist bombings, Muslim extremism and black inner-city violence, loss of major long-established industries to overseas competitors along with thousands of jobs, heavier taxation, greater burden on the NHS, more violent assaults on NHS staff, Cherie-gate, cash-for-honours, etc. On every single policy front- Blair has excelled in extreme incompetence and destruction. And given more of our rights away to the unelected and according to the Law of 1607 illegal 'Foreign Princes' of the EU 'parliament'. Let us not forget the bigotted and at times downright racist attacks on the English people. I quote Jack Straw aka Jakob Strau, "The English don't exist, therefore they have no right to a homeland". What were to happen if he were to say the same about Jamaicans or his fellow Jews? David Cameron has illustrated to desire to take a leaf from ComIntern Tony Blair's book and emulate every facet down to the mincing and pastel shirts. I most respectfully suggest disheartened, disaffected and disillusioned Briton to vote BNP- a party willing to brave the lies of the press to support the views of it's electorate. The major parties hate the BNP as the BNP proudly promotes the rights and interests of the Indigenous British Islander above all others. I will be proudly voting BNP for my nation and its people, and I suggest you all do too.
- Its only unpleasant because we have to read all the rubbish from Tories who have very short memories. And as for the pillock who thinks we are taxed more, he should check the facts, I'm gonna laugh my head off when the Tories get back in and Tory voters start losing their houses through high interest rates etc. Its just a pity Labour voters will lose theirs too. How will you be answering the questions of disgruntled Tories who ask stupid question on here then, although, i expect, The Tories will be blaming Labour for the entire time they are in power, like they did the last time.
- No. The Liberals who are taking away his options for protecting the countries interest has.
- Mr Blair's legacy is a Britain that is dirty, squalid, uncivilised, cowardly, rotten to the core. A disgusting place overrun with human rats, some of whom call themselves MPs and to pay for all this we are taxed to the hilt. To hell with Mr Blair and his foul crowd of crooks.
- I don't think you can blame Blair people have known for a long time that terrorism was the next big problem.I would love to see the west finding a way not to be dependant on oil then just build a great big defence shield, we live here you stay there.
