- Don't be so uptight. I like his movies but don't tie him in with the common British subject. Some English are so ignorant they try to tie Homer Simpson in with the average American though.
- I didn't know we were supposed to be like Mr Bean! But I'm not bothered to be honest, he's a character that's meant to be funny, we're clearly nothing like him so whatever really!
- i think that would be like saying canadian air farce and strange brew are offensive to canadians, which is actually quite the opposite. people can relate to the character and laugh at how over the top it is.
- No, It's a comedy & we have the ability to laugh at ourselves. I can't think of another nation in the world with this paticular trait.
- When i watch MR bean i dont think abt british ppl I just enjoy the show!!
- This is the craziest thing I've ever heard....have you SEEN all the Mr. Bean shows that used to be on???? They are absolutely hilarious. How can a country be associated as a whole by ONE comedian??? I'm in the US....hell, WE'RE associated as a country because of G. Bush!!!!!! Now, THAT's embarrassing.
- Mr Bean isn't emblematic of the British. The association comes from the fact that Rowan Atkinson is English. His other comedy series, Blackadder, is much more emblematic of the stereotypes the English see in themselves and laugh at. English humour is far more self-deprecating than American humour and the English have always enjoyed laughing at their own foibles. In the case of Mr Bean, however, it is much more about a character that is rather childish and self-centred and the way his behaviour leads him into situations that are often only resolved at his own expense. There is a lot more schadenfreude in the humour of Mr Bean than anything else. As far as the way the English feel about Mr Bean, he's a very popular character. If you're looking for something that satirises more English ideas and values watch ''Blackadder's A Christmas Carol'' and you will see the difference between the comedy of Mr Bean and the more culturally specific humour of Blackadder.
- If your going to judge people, you should judge them as individuals rather than as a group. Also, you should not treat a fictional story, tv show or movie as reality. If you want to know how british are like, you visit britain or new york (there is a ton of them here). They are just like us except for the accent.
- awww come on you know you like Mr. Bean; he's soooooo funny!
