How is Mr. Jaggers like Little Britain in Great Expectations? I have to do a project for my English class relating Mr. Jaggers to Little Britain (where his office is) in Great Expectations. I really don't know what Little Britain is supposed to look like, being that they don't really go into much detail... Can anyone help me?? It's due Monday... Thanks! ~Katie
How many people turned up in britain to welcome Mr Obama? I hear he was here giving a speech does anybody know what he said? Or how many people turned out to greet him? Well im told by some American friends we love him over here? Oh i see the Germans flocked to see him but are that not a lot of Americans stationed in Germany? Oh dear time for a reality check then!
Broken Britain Mr Cameron? Has he forgotten his Auntie Maggies words so soon? "There is no such thing as Society" thanks for setting the Me Me Me ball rolling Maggie If she gets her wish for a State funeral I shall be there with a trumpet playing "Roll out the Barrel" anyone got a drum? What have we come to? our voting choice = War Criminals or Fascists..good old blighty.. I was once a Miner and am proud to remain " The Enemy Within". I shall vote Lib Dem in recognition of their opposition to our criminal Wars. I cherish the right to vote and as a former soldier I know the price paid for the right to do so. I am not retired I am unemployed (scum) I left the Army as I did not join to be hired out as a mercenary to Corporations more recently I lost my job (Psychiatric Nurse), my home, and everything else for having the temerity to Whistle Blow on the outrageous corruption, fraud and bullying of my NHS Managers..They are still in post... I am now unemployable at the age of 50...but am still ready for a fight!! so put em up you cowardly set of b********ds!!..sorry for the rant folks.
Is Great Britain proud of Mr/Mrs. Elton John's marriage then? I may behind time but I just only came across a 'Cliff Richard' issue which contain Mars, Space, Aliens and Funfairs...funny people find so amusing criticizing a clean cut Sir Cliff but made him a target for humour. I think the British have more disgusting yet concerning issues about legalizing she-husbands marriages to He-wives??? We have laws like bigamy, and of God's on adultery, and a prominent religion representing a nation, how could a marriage of such be allowed?
Is climate change really man made, or is that just so Mr. Brown can put more tax on the petrol? Look, I am really skeptical. I see all these cleverly made TV ads to do with climate change, and acting on CO2, but I don't really see any change, I mean, Britain has had more snow this winter and the previous 2 winters for something like 15-20 years. My grandma told me that the last snow we had worth talking about was 1981. So if this is the case, what is Mr. Brown on about V8 forever.
Mr de Menezes was an innocent man, legally in Britain, who did nothing to contribute to his death.? Were you aware of this?Did you realise this poor innocent man had been the victim of not only murder, but to add insult to injury a despicable attempt at character assassination? The story about his visa being two years out of date was just made up. The opening quote is from Coroner Sir Michael Wright. Kat Kat:Read the quote 'an innocent man' there's no ambiguity here.He was an innocent man. That's a fact.People run for tube trains every day.If that's not why he was running then the other explanation is he felt threatened. As he was clearly, as stated, innocent it can only be one of these two reasons. Utopia:I can honestly say I did not hear that.Have you a link? That would be disgraceful. Sage:Jack Straw said his visa was valid.Perhaps you should take it up with Jack Straw. Pirate Duchess:Well As i said the Coroner Sir Michael stated he was an innocent man. That much is fact. Therefore the assumption that innocent men don't run is flawed. If someone approached you with a gun would you not run?My guess is your survival instinct would kick in and flight would be your obvious choice. You cannot have a civilised society where innocent people are sacrificed like this.None of the police positively I.D'd him. This alone made the kill illegal. We're not sure if it's him but sure we'll kill him anyway? The mind boggles! Curious:This isn't about other countries it's about an incident in Britain. If other countries have slack standards that is their problem and has no bearing on this. It's about not sticking to the rules, like positively identifying the target. It's about having the decency not to add insult to injury by assassinating the victims character to save your own and here I refer in particular to Ian Blair.(the buck stops with him.) Michael W:Jack Straw sstated his visa was valid. That's the whole point of the question.Misinformation!Bad enough they took his life.Blackening his character to excuse their actions. What's that all about? That is just plain wrong. Troops killed in friendly fire have signed up to be in a war zone.Mr de Menezes was going about his business in a perfectly law abiding manner. He had the right to expect the laws of the land to be adhered to.They did not positively I.D. him.He was sacrificed, plain and simple.
Have the top three British political parties been a success for Britain? The Labour Party sem to be well liked by the public overall as do the nice Liberals who are kind and like gays an' that. The Conservatives have Boris and .............Boris ...and ...er......that nice Mr Coe. All these nice parties seem popular with the public...they certainly haven't voted for anyone else. Is everyone happy with this status quo? The Patriot - So the Left-Wing,EU,PC pervert Liberals and Guardian readers are happy with our country. Thank God their voice is bigger than their bite.
Why are Britain donating 10 million to Gaza? ... Is Gordon Brown trying to score Brownie points or what? I mean seriously, the same Hamas group that support Al Qaeda, and the same citizens who were dancing and cheering on 9/11 along with 7/7..... Nice addition to the recession Mr Prime Minister.
What are some of the most popular television series in Britain today? I have to get an friend a b-day gift and she is obsessed with British television. I want to get her something athentic, but I don't know anything about the popular culture in Britian today (I'm sure Benny Hill and Mr. Bean are pretty old there now). Can anyone give any suggestions? Maybe about popular comedy shows?
How does the government work in England? I've been paying attention to the recent elections in Great Britain recently and it's interested to me how they do things a little differently. I've known that the Monarch is largely ceremonial and considered a head of state. The Prime Minister position has me most confused. David Cameron is likely to be the next Prime Minister of Great Britain, and the new head of government. I think I am confused, because there is no official election for Prime Minister of Great Britain. Mr. Cameron is leader of the party with the most legislative seats. So...is the Prime Minister of Great Britain similar to our Speaker of the House. The Speaker was not elected by the people as Speaker, but because her party has the most legislative seats they (the legislators) elected her Speaker (just as I am assuming Cameron will be elected by the legislators in England). Am I correct? I know that the President is elected by the electoral college. I'm wondering if the Prime Minister is elected by the British Parliament, which I guess is similar to our system, because the electoral college is basically the Congress.
World War II,.. did Britain win the war, but lose the fight when it came to immigration? I ask this because to me it seems the second world war was to keep Britain 'British',... so how come that so many goverments in the UK have allowed so many non-british to move and stay here,... and now we have all the problems we do. Make sense? I can't help but think of all those in WWII who put their lives on the line to keep the Germans out,.. and now the goverment has willy-nilly let nearly every other nationality into our country and it's now really going downhill... this country seems to be getting more and more tense as trouble becomes more and more severe on a daily basis. It infuriates me to know that this is going on. I'm British and bloody proud of it. What's going on Mr Blair? What happened to the immigration laws??? Do you think Britain would be a better, safer, more tolerant, law-abiding, non-fundementalist, and generally trouble free place to live if immigration back in the 1940's-1950's had been heavily restricted? Would like to know your answers,.. from anyone.
Has Mr Putin got a short memory? Mr. Putin has now insulted Britain by saying he is glad Russia was not a British Colony. The dispute is all over the extradition of a Russian national for murder. Perhaps this president has forgotten the number of convoys that the Brits sent to Russia in 1940 resulting the loss of life to many British sailors to help them against Germany. Yes I do rember it, but does Mr.Putin. Do readers agree.
Ministers Call For National 'Britain Day' - Any comments? A national 'Britain Day' could be introduced in a bid to reinforce citizenship and prevent communities becoming more divided, if senior ministers get their way. Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly and Immigration Minister Liam Byrne said financial incentives may also be necessary to step up what they call Britain's "citizenship revolution". In a Fabian Society pamphlet, the pair said it was essential to promote a stronger sense of Britishness and the values that people hold in common. Suggestions included a new system of "earned citizenship" with a clearer points-based path for newcomers to earn the privileges of settling in Britain. Ms Kelly and Mr Byrne said there was a "critical risk" that after 40 years of increasing diversity in Britain, communities start looking inward and questioning their identity. "So instead of emphasising what they have in common with others, they stress the divisions and differences," they said. Our task in Britain, in the coming decade, is not to plan a separation. "Nor can it be about assimilation into a mono-culture. Instead we must develop a meaningful sense of what we all - whatever faith, ethnicity and wherever in Britain we are from - hold in common. "We need a stronger sense of why we live in a common place and have a shared future. "Today, more than at any time since the Second World War, we need a more vigorous debate about what it is that holds us together and how we express these links more clearly." PLEASE NOT THAT RUTH KELLY IS IN THE FOREFRONT OF THIS! HOW MANY TIMES HAS SHE BEEN MOVED AROUND FOR MAKING REAL POLITICAL BLUNDERS?
why is britain moaning about zimbabwe? britain interfered with zimbabwe got rid of ian smith and helped mugabwe into power.britain interfered in south africa and now its gone right down hill, britain and its sas trained the taliban now they are killing them, britain trained and employed mr bin laden in their inteligegence service now they want him dead, feck me ,who needs enemys when youve got friends like britain
Now then a question regarding President Obama and Britain? now not so long ago i was reading on here and a couple of American daily rags that your Mr Obama was not that keen on the British well what has suddenly changed his mind because i am a curious type of fellow. Strange Jack that all these leaders when not in power suddenly when they gain power come across these moments.Happens every time.
How much of Britain's woes is down to the lefty Labour government?/? They have got it all wrong; the barmy PC campaign disguised as human rights; poorly managed immigration and the resultant ethnic disconnect;terrorists living off the country they hate; criminals with more rights than their victims. The yob mentality and binge drinking are out of control , headlines like "Boy, 11 shot dead by 12 year old"; "Examiner admits GCSEs are being dumbed down"; "Paedophile admits sex with 18 month old baby but escapes jail." No wonder Britons are leaving in record numbers, is it too late to reverse the trend if we have an incompetent government which ignores the wishes of its electorate. Not a single shot has been fired (except by yobs),yet the country is run by a foreign power.Mr Straw as Foreign secretary said in 2004 "...a referendum on the EU would take place in 2006 if the Labour party win a third term in office." Gordon Brown also raised our hopes of a referendum when he stood for Parliament in 2005 on a manifesto which promised a referendum. Promises!!! Fur Q, I never read the Sun, it's a comic. I certainly don't look up to footballers and celebrities (overpaid prima donnas). I am however saddened by the way this country has gone downhill, don't say you haven't noticed...who do you blame then if not the liberal lefty PCs and Labour?..they're the ones with the power (or not). Tiggsy, I'm probably older than you and remember the Tories, things were nrver as bad as this. The government have no idea how many immigrants are here legally, let alone illegally, shootings are now a daily occurrence, very rare in the 60s. family values are being eroded and discipline in schools and on the streets are at an all time low...or if I'm wrong, correct me. drjohndee, please correct my spelling /grammar if you can (I realize never is not spelt nrver but that was a typo.) Alan h...what's remotely racist about what I've written??Go on tell me, immigrants are of every race so it can't be that.If PC isn't lefty, tell me what it is. Blair might not have said that but his party is ruining our society, it bears no resemblance to the law-abiding decent society of years gone by, not even a pinkie like you could argue with that.
Is it acceptable in Britain, for a well dressed lad to ask women for money? The said persons having a quiet smoke outside a restaurant, and Mr Lazy Bones approaches and asks politely for money! He was told just as politely NO, and he apologised for interupting and wandered off.!!What is going on in the uk, please tell me? Ding...no religion with that guy i'm sure, a real skivver, scrounging of others.
Mr McCain seemed a little anti-British and Canadian? Why did almost seem to spit the words Britain and Canada when replying to Mr Obama on Health care? Was he being racist? Why did he. It should read Ray we pay for our Healthcare via our taxes. But it true in the sense that everybody is entitled to it whether they pay tax or not. dKarin as above we pay direct through tax but we also have the choice to pay for private medical care if we so wish and can afford it of course. RAY I NEVER SAID YOU DID NOT!!!

What does the German finance minister have against John Maynard Keynes? Peter Steinbruck has criticized the American and British plans to prevent depression as "crass Keynesianism." Excuse me, but wasn't Mr. Keynes' brilliant ideas that saved Britain from the dark days of Great Depression? Or has the right wing so completely revised history that the sole heroes are Margaret Thatcher,Ronald Reagan, Ludwig von Mises, and the considerably abridged and misread Adam Smith?
